Commercial LED Strip
Commercial LED Strip
By using 24V LED strips instead of the more common 12V strips you reduce the effect of 'volt drop'. This makes 24V LED light strips more suitable for commercial use or for longer, more complicated runs. By increasing the voltage, the power travels faster and stronger over further distances and if the voltage does drop by a few volts it will be barely noticeable. When using 12V LED strips a drop in a few volts will reduce the light output by a larger percentage, more noticeably towards the end of the line.
Although there are ways of overcoming ‘volt drop’ with the 12V version such as using amplifiers or employing thicker cables etc. The 24V LED strip allows longer runs to be combined together meaning less wiring and fewer amplifiers are needed, if at all.
Another advantage of using 24V is that consumes less current than the 12V version. A 5 metre length of 24V 60 LED per metre strip at 14.4W per metre would consume just 3 amps compared to the same LED strip in 12V which would consume 6 amps. This can make a major difference when using certain controllers and allow you to run much longer lengths, often double than that of 12V.
LED strips can be used almost anywhere and adapted to many situations. Smaller LED strips are easy to install, as the parts can be supplied in a 'plug and play' format but larger installations such as 20 metre runs require technical knowledge and expertise. All of our LED light strips are rated at IP65 as standard making them suitable for indoor and outdoor use, or for areas where steam, water or dust may be present.
Each strip is supplied with a self-adhesive 3M backing, peel off the back of the strip and attach it to a clean surface. LED strips are fragile as they are made with delicate electronic components. For areas where the strip maybe exposed or where people may come into regular contact, we recommend fitting it into an aluminium profile rail. Aluminium profile rails not only provide added protection but they make the installation look more professional.
We can supply LED strips fitted inside profile rails made to any length required, to a maximum of 2.1 metres. The rails are available in a choice of clear or opal lids and are supplied with mounting brackets, ready for use. LED profile rails can also be used in commercial applications, replace your bulky fluorescent fittings with these compact low energy and longer lasting alternatives.
Here is an example wiring diagram of a 24 metre run of RGB colour changing LED strip using the 24V version:
