Basic Fire Rated Downlights

The basic fire rated downlights in this section are available in either mains voltage GU10 or low voltage MR16. Each fire rated downlight is supplied on its own, without a lamp (or bulb), lamps can be ordered separately or added using the product options.

Please note that when ordering GU10 lamps separately there are two frame sizes to choose from. Lamps that will fit inside these downlights must be the same physical size as a standard halogen lamp which is 57mm high. Lamps that are this physical size are available in CFL and LED. However some CFL and LED lamps are physically bigger and won't fit such as the 7W Philips Master LED and the 11W Kosnic CFL. These bigger (or deeper) lamps require special downlights, usually known as low energy downlights. We also have  downlights available that will house lamps of all sizes such as Icage downlights. The table below shows which lamps will fit and which won't:

Low voltage MR16 lamps are generally the same physical size as halogen and will fit inside these downlights. As LED technology constantly develops lamps are becoming brighter and smaller, then brighter and larger again. It's a cycle, for example; the larger Philips 7W GU10 LED has been superseded by the 6W GU10 LED which is 5% brighter and is the same physical size as a halogen. But there is now an 8W version which is even brighter at around 450 lumens, the 8W LED is the larger frame size of 80mm deep. We suspect that in the future even this 8W version will become a perfect fit LED and the cycle will continue.
