Low Energy Fire Rated Downlights

The low energy fire rated downlights in this section are mains voltage and fitted with a GU10 lamp holder. Each fire rated downlight is supplied on its own, without a lamp (or bulb), lamps can be ordered separately or added using the product options.

Low energy downlights were originally designed solely for use with deeper low energy lamps (or bulbs) such as 11W CFLs or 7W Philips Master LEDs. The lamp holder was set back meaning smaller lamps like 50W halogens would not fit correctly. This made them Part L Approved, however due to recent changes in the Building Regulations; this downlight has been redeveloped and will now house all GU10 lamps. The new version of this downlight has a variable length lamp holder allowing it to house any GU10 lamp. The image below shows the five different frame sizes of the popular GU10 lamp.

The recommended lamps for this downlight are 6W Philips GU10 LEDs. If you plan to fit a halogen or perfect fit LED then you could use one of our basic fire rated downlights.  Low energy downlights are available in three finishes; brushed nickel, chrome and white. Please select which finish you require from the product options. 

A more advanced version of this downlight is now available called the Icage. Icage downlights will also house lamps of all sizes but they are open rated. By using an open rated downlight instead of a traditional fire can style downlight you are allowing the lamp to ventilate better and prolonging its life expectancy. The Icage design is unique as it is fully fire rated and open rated.
