Kitchen Lighting
In todays kitchens, they are the center of family activity and get togethers, often the busiest room in the modern home. Lighting requirements all depend on the area of the kitchen and the space available. Whilst the kitchen is an initial work area, it could also be used for get togethers with friends and family for activities or dining. Smaller kitchens may only require a middle of ceiling fixture and perhaps task lighting under cabinets? The more larger kitchen will require a perfect blend of accent lighting.
Lighting Techniques
Center Ceiling :
For middle of the ceiling lighting, a large fluorescent will provide the most light with the minimum costs.
Lighting in general can be achieved with with a central fixture via a chandelier and/ or recessed lights.
Cabinet Lighting :
To quickly and easily illuminate your worktops , undercabinet lights are receommended. They are widely available in many choices including energy efficient, miniuature and low voltage. Place them in the central under cabinet so that the light reflects evenly over your worktop. It is worthwhile considering putting this type of light fixture on a simmer switch and keeping it separate from from your main kitche lighting. Dimmer switches enable you to add light and different depths which can add a dramatic and modern look to your cooking spaces. Dimmer switches also dave on energy!
Over The Sink or Cooker:
Recessed lights in these areas of the kitchen assure quality lighting for tasks sych as cooking and cleaning the pots whilst looking crisp and modern. It is worth noting that square downlights are available and not just round which can give your home a modern twist of flair!
Alternative methods to use are track and/or rail systems which are mode easily installed other than having to gain access to the space above from your kitchen.
Kitchen Table Lighting:
The kitchen table could be used for a variety of purposes including eating, homework, hobbies or maybe for business?! A pendant lighting fixture will give enough light for any task and will add style and glamourt this space.
Consideration should be given to installing a dimmer system for ambiance during entertaining and dining.
Breakfast Bars :
A group of miniature pendants above the breakfast bar will combine general lighting with tasks efficiency whilst also giving your kitchen elegance.
Cabinets
Bottom cabinets provide exciting opportunities to layer accent lighting in the kitchen. If your bottom cabinets are glass fronted, a low voltage linear system, LED Downlights or LED Srips inside will highlight your collectibles radiantly. Adding lighting above and below cabinets can give a more modern, classy look whilst creatng the illusion of more spce in your kitchen.
