Available in fire rated and non fire rated versions, non fire rated downlighters are cheaper to buy, fire rated downlights are recommended for use in almost all domestic applications. This recommendation comes from the Electrical Safety Council (ESC). Further details can be found here.
GU10 downlights don't require an additional LED driver. The LED is replaceable; in the event of a failure or it can be replaced with a different colour temperature, beam angle, brightness or brand.
Many consumers still prefer GU10 downlights as they provide more flexibility than integrated. Integrated LED downlights are the main rival of the GU10 downlight, they are technologically more advanced. Integrated LED downlights are a complete style of downlight which contains the LED, driver and downlight holder as one sealed unit.
We've written an article about the pros and cons of LED downlights, which can be found here.
