LED Spot Lights- An Overview
LED spot lights have revolutionized the way we light our homes and offices in the last few years. LED stands for light emitting diode and the lamps they are assembled into have proved themselves as a great replacement for incandescent and fluorescent lamps.
Not only do LED spotlights have a lifespan which is several times longer than incandescent bulbs they are also considerably more energy efficient. They perform even better in comparison with fluorescent lamps and unlike this type of lamp come to full brightness with no need to warm up to full strength.
It is hard to exaggerate how energy efficient LED lights are nowadays. An average light fitting with a 60 watt incandescent bulb uses approximately 525 kWh of electricity in a normal year. Fit an LED light bulb in the same fitting and the electricity used drops to around 65 kWh in the same period.
Apart from the electricity saved there is another important factor to consider. LED lights last a seriously long time. An average incandescent bulb lasts on average 750 hours, however LED lamps can last between 30,000 to 50,000 hours. This basically makes changing a light bulb a job for once or twice every twenty years instead of the regular searching for the last bulb at the back of the drawer.
Years ago LED spotlights were known to give off a slightly bluish light. This is no longer an issue as LED lamps can now give off the same soft, white light as other types of bulbs. The other issue LED lamps used to have was that they produced light in a narrower band than other types of bulbs. Nowadays this is not the case as there are many types and styles of LED spot lights.
LED spotlights are becoming more popular all the time and are now a cost effective alternative to incandescent and fluorescent bulbs. They are a very low maintenance bulb with excellent lighting qualities that will improve the look and feel of your home with the added security that they will provide many years of hassle free use.
