According to a new study, those people who sleep in a room which is light enough to see across tend to have a larger waistline. This study suggests that sleep is not only essential to getting a good night’s rest, but that it is in some way related to weight.

At present, one of the most popular LED products available on the market is LED strip lights (also known as LED ribbons or tapes). Depending on the intended purpose of your lights, there are a number of factors which will influence your choice: the size or type of LED, the number of LEDs within a metre strip, the colour or colour temperature, flexibility of the strip, carrying capacity and voltage, amongst others.

There are many obvious benefits to using LED lighting, from substantial energy and cost reductions to longer bulb life and lower overall heat generation, which the majority of people are aware of. However, many people are unaware that the colour temperature of their LED lights impacts the degree to which they are benefited.

Many nations around the world are currently making the switch from old-fashioned incandescent and halogen bulbs to the more modern, efficient choice of LED light bulbs. In the UK, research shows that around 9 in 10 homes now purchase and use CFL or LED light bulbs, and although these statistics are relatively strong compared to the rest of the world, the UK remains behind Italy for adoption. Therefore, more should be done to explain the advantages of LED and CFL bulbs to make their adoption 10 out of 10 for the UK.

Glasgow has officially become the first local authority in the UK sign up for a new green loan that will finance the switch to eco-friendly street lighting. At present, the city contains 72,000 sodium lamps, but it is believed that switching these to LED lights will see substantial savings to the city’s current £8.9 million street lighting bill.

With the Government’s target of 80 percent carbon emissions cut by 2050, it needs to do all it can to reduce the number. One of the simplest ways it can do this is by replacing all old street lights with LED replacements. Following small, successful trials, the Government has committed itself to replacing 35,000 of London’s 52,000 street lights within 10 years, making it a flagship for this kind of project here in the UK.

One of the most common problems associated with the LED bulb industry is that it is trying to take too much control of the market too soon. For instance, before it is sufficiently cheap enough for ordinary working people to afford, and before the technology is as good as it potentially can be.

Every year it seems as though LED lighting becomes more and more affordable. Gone are the days of high manufacturing costs, high retail value and low practicality. Over the course of the past 5 years, making and manufacturing LEDs in bulk has become cheaper than ever and, as a result, the price to the consumer has also decreased.
