We were asked if we could make a dining table with a twist, so quite quickly we had the idea to come up with a table that lights up. We thought it would be fun if the light came from underneath rather than the top. After realizing LED light is probably the way forward, we got in touch with Downlights Direct.

I replaced existing GU50 spotlights which had burnt as the surrounding insulation caused existing units to overheat and pose a fire risk.

I wanted to install more efficient lighting in my bathroom and decided to convert to LED downlights, but the issue of a low ceiling void cropped up allowing me minimum space to work with.

This LED Strip Kit 30 LED Per Metre Single Colour 1/2 Metre kit is the easiest to install yet if you are a DIY kind of person. The installation is all plug and play and absolutely no wiring is required. The LED strips have lots of uses but I found them most suited for my under kitchen counters. Now, my kitchen has well controlled lighting that does not scream in my face unlike the previous options I had.

With my original downlighting setup in my kitchen, I had 16 50W GU10 halogen bulbs, which whilst I was happy with their lighting levels, I was becoming increasingly frustrated with having to keep replacing the bulbs that for no apparent reason kept blowing out! It felt like it was happening almost every month and It was at a rather dimly-lit dinner party that I was recommended by a family friend to switch to a low energy, longer lasting form of lighting, which I was told would save me on energy costs as well as not having to always replace my bulbs.

We decided to use LED lighting for all areas, making use of the dimming Philips 7W GU10 mains bulbs as our chosen downlighter in combination with the fire rated iCage. This gave us a simple installation without the need for costly transformers but still being able to dim the main lighting and power save! In the end we were able to provide general lighting to the whole office area with LED bulbs for less power output then that of just one 50W low voltage halogen!! And no the quality, brightness and colour temperature was not compromised! And yes before I started out it was a concern that this would be the case.
