Product Questions & Answers
I need a fire hood for a ceiling-recessed PIR (similar to a downlight) 75mm in diameter and 50mm height. I am looking at the fire hoods "ADLC/." What size should I get? Do the dimensions (like 130 x 100) mean height x width, or width x height? Your Features tab says "We recommend leaving a clearance of 40mm horizontaly and 15mm vertically." Is that the clearance between the downlight and the hood, or between the hood and something else in the ceiling (like a timber joist)?
Since my fitting is 75mm in diameter and 50mm in height, does that mean that I should get a fire hood which has 40mm clearance on both sides of the fitting, i.e. at least 75 + 40 + 40 = 155mm width fire hood?
Finally, how to the electrical cables enter through the fire hood to get to the fitting?
Thank you.Question by: Nils on 20 Jul 2022, 14:58The dimensions are diameter x height, I'd recommend the ADLC/1 for these which is 130x70mm. The cable will go though the top of the hood.Answer by: Mathew Smith (Admin) on 20 Jul 2022, 16:28Thank you very much for good answers!
Sorry, I have a very quick follow-up question (see original questions below):
Is any clearance needed on the sides of the firehood, or it in principle OK to put the firehood tight against a timber joist on one side? (130 diameter firehood, so centre 65 mm away from the joist)

The firehood itself poses no fire risk and doesn't generate any heat. In the event of a fire, it will still seal off the hole and prevent the fire from spreading.Answer by: Chris Horridge (Admin) on 28 Jul 2022, 08:20 -
