Operating on mains voltage and requiring no additional transformers, the GU10 LED has become the preferred LED alternative to MR16. We have many options to choose from including premium and economy versions from the leading brands of the UK lighting industry.
Identified by its 2 stubby shaped pins with a gap of 10mm between the centres of each, shown below:
Before the arrival of the GU10 lamp and LED lighting technology, your only choice of downlight was the low voltage 50W MR16, things have certainly come a very long way in the world of downlights. The GU10 lamp was originally available in a 50W versions, but wasn't as bright as the 50W low voltage MR16.
The lumen output of a 50W GU10 halogen was 350-400 lumens, when you're buying an LED alternative, you need to compare the lumen values to make sure your getting an equivalent brightness. Or we have options that are comparable to an 80W halogen, which are great if you want something brighter.
Without its need for a transformer, the GU10 LED has become incredibly popular, with many consumers opting for this over the more technologically advanced integrated LED downlight. Its's cheap to buy, easy to replace and available in a wide variety of lumen outputs, colour temperatures and beam angles.
Our branded selection of GU10 LED bulbs are highly reliable and provide a better quality of light, especially if you choose an LED with high CRI (Colour Rendering Index). This higher specification LEDs reproduce colours more accurately, similar to how a halogen did and more consistent with daylight.
